Golestan musicians giving concerts in honor of Meshkatian

TEHRAN -- Musicians from Golestan Province are giving concerts in honor of santur virtuoso Parviz Meshkatian in their home province.
Chakavak band gave its first performance in Gonbad-e Kavus on Sunday, and was warmly received by a large number of audiences, the director of the Gonbad-e Kavus Culture and Islamic Guidance Office said on Monday.Mohammadreza Davarzani added that the band will continue their concerts in the cities of Bandar Gaz and Gorgan until Friday June 20.
The band features Mohsen Hosseini on tar, Ali Farhadi on Kamancheh, Ali Mohammadi on daf, Dariush Shariati on setar, Sina Saeidi on tonbak, Mohammad Kaviani on santur, and Mohammad Ebrahimi on ney. Singer Mahmud Mallah also accompanies the band.
Parviz Meshkatian was born in Neyshabur, northeastern Iran, in 1955. He started his musical training at the age of six with his father Hassan Meshkatian, who masterfully played tar and santur and was also familiar with the violin and setar, having himself learned music from his father.
Meshkatian is the founder of the Aref Band and have performed several concerts in Iran, Europe and the Americas.
